About IT Department:

The Department of Information Technology at G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology and Science (GNITS) was established in 1997 with the vision of establishing a premier transformative learning community that promptly responds to the challenges of Information Technology. It is a proudly affiliated institution with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad and has received accreditation from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in New Delhi.

Dr. S. Ramacharan, the current Head of the Department (HOD), is a prominent Professor with an exceptional academic career. In 1997, he received his B.Tech. in Computer Science Engineering from Rural Engineering College, Bhalki, Gulburga University, and in 2007, he received his M.Tech in Computer Science Engineering from JNTUK. His interest in research prompted him to get a Ph.D. in Computer Science Engineering from JNTUH in 2017, with a focus on software engineering. Dr. Ramacharan has made important contributions to the area of education over his outstanding teaching career spanning 24 years. His 28 research papers in both national and international journals serve as evidence of his dedication to research. As the Department Head, he continues to inspire students and colleagues with his knowledge and dedication to academic success.

In addition, the department is delighted to have another distinguished faculty member,           Dr. I. Ravi Prakash Reddy, who serves as Professor and Dean. In 1994, he earned a B.Tech from Vasavi College of Engineering in Hyderabad, followed by an M.Tech from Andhra University in Vizag in 1997. In 2011, he received his Ph.D. from JNTU Hyderabad with a specialisation in Distributed Systems. He has over 20 years of teaching experience and 20 research papers in both national and international journals. Currently, he mentors five doctoral candidates in research.

 Department Achievements

The Department of Information Technology (IT) has achieved remarkable milestones and recognition in recent years. Our B.Tech (IT) and M.Tech (CNIS) programs have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for three years, demonstrating the quality and excellence of our academic offerings. Notably, the UG program has received triple accreditation from NBA in the years 2007-2010, 2017-2020, and 2021-2024, while the PG program, initiated in 2012, received NBA accreditation for 2019-2021.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council's (NAAC) accreditation from 2019 to 2023 is a further indication of our dedication to providing a conducive learning environment. Our department's highly qualified and devoted faculty, with a 100% ratification rate and an impressive 90% retention rate, ensures that our students receive the best possible education.

Over the past three years, the department has consistently maintained a pass rate of at least 80% and an outstanding placement rate of over 90%. Strong industry connections have resulted in valuable interactions with prestigious companies like Infosys, JPMC, and Apple, exposing students to real-world challenges.

 The organisation of national and international conferences and seminars on cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Data Analytics in collaboration with industry experts demonstrate our commitment to fostering academic development.

Two gold medals for university rankings from Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University in Hyderabad are evidence of our tremendous pride in our students' accomplishments.

We have established strategic partnerships with Apple, Infosys, Brain-O-Vision, Misplaced Minds, and EC-Council to further enhance our academic offerings. This has resulted in remarkable placements, with 90% of our students obtaining employment and over 50% participating in paid internships.

The department is home to an Apple Centre of Excellence, a Cyber Security Centre of Excellence, and a Deeploop Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality Incubation Centre, all of which foster innovation and cutting-edge research. Our faculty and students have contributed substantially to research over the past three years, with over 100 publications and 9 patents.

Furthermore, we encourage our students to engage in continuous learning, and in the past three years, over ninety NPTEL certifications have been earned.

The Department of Information Technology has established valuable collaborations through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with organizations like M/s Brain O Vision solutions India Pvt. Ltd, M/s Misplaced Minds, M.s MIRAINXT Innowork Pvt. Ltd, M/s CII Indian Women Network, M/s INSOFE, M/s Oracle Academy, GRIET Hyderabad, M/s Apple India Pvt Ltd, and M/s Infosys. These partnerships aim to foster academic and industry interactions, offering unique opportunities for research, training, and industry exposure for our students and faculty.

 Research & Development

The department has submitted proposals to a number of well-known funding agencies, such as DBT, DST, AICTE, SERB, Ministry of Science and Technology, etc., for funds that can be used for research and development projects. This will serve as a foundation for advancing knowledge, conducting high-quality research that contributes to academic, scientific, and societal progress.

 During the past academic year, a number of project proposals totaling Rs.72,6L were submitted and are currently being evaluated.

During the academic year 2020-21, our department reached a significant milestone by securing initial funding of Rs. 3 lakhs for our research project entitled "IoT-based Smart Firefighting" under the prestigious AICTE Research Promotion Scheme.

During the academic year 2022-23, we pursued additional opportunities to contribute to the scientific community in order to demonstrate our continued commitment to research and development. We submitted research proposals to prestigious programmes, such as the "Strengthening Upscaling and Nurturing Local Innovations for Livelihood (SUNIL) Programme," the Department of Biotechnology (DST-DBT), and the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) programmes.

 Consulting Service

The department encourages academicians to participate in industry-driven consulting projects to enhance institute-industry engagement and faculty professional experience. In recent years, consulting projects worth Rs  8.85L have been undertaken.

Project management to aid in website development, graphic design services, risk modelling for financial activities and investment banking, and deep learning model construction to implement and evaluate adaptive machine learning algorithms are a few of the consulting services provided.
